Since before Obama took office the cry from the right was of the evils of government spending. Since he took office the GOP outrage has been about his insatiable desire to spend, that the debt is killing the economy and especially killing job creation. Really?
Today I heard reports about the Assistant Secretary of Defense's testimony on Capital Hill of all the bad things that will happen if sequestration goes forward with the across the board cuts. I heard the defense industry had representatives in a local hotel in red tee shirts saying 2 million jobs are at risk of being lost if the cuts go through. Military bases might close killing local economies. All kinds of dire things will happen if the cuts are allowed.
But I was told by the right that lowering the deficit and debt by cutting spending was the only way to spur economic growth and assure long term financial stability. So which exactly is it? Spend and save or create jobs as well as maintain the training and maintenance of the American military as the Assistant Secretary of Defense and many GOP lawmakers insist, or allow the cuts lowering the deficit and debt and lose jobs and devastate communities, the exact opposite outcome of what the right has told us would happen?
The debate in Congress by the right makes no logical sense. They argue spending must be cut to create jobs and spur the economy. They also argue spending cuts will kill 2 million jobs and hurt the economy.
